Launch of Arztak Hawytak
BEIRUT, LEBANON, September 23rd – On Thursday, September 23rd, 2022 the United Nations Global Compact Network Lebanon joined forces at École Supérieure des Affaires (ESA) Business School with Rotary Club Beirut Cadmos, Jouzour Loubnan and Bank BEMO to launch an environmental initiative entitled “Arztak Hawaytak“.
Arztak Hawaytak is a Lebanese reforestation initiative that aims to plant 10,452 Cedar trees in a natural reserve at the heart of Ehden. The broader aim of this local initiative is to advance Lebanese climate action efforts and reaffirm Lebanese identity at a time where the multiple crises have exacerbated environmental degradation and led to mass emigration and brain drain.
The launching ceremony featured a high-level panel that convened leaders spanning across various fields and in which our Executive Director, Deenah Fakhoury, intervened and highlighted the pivotal role of the private sector in advancing climate action and adaptation. During her intervention, Ms. Fakhoury, stressed the importance of partnerships for the greater collective good: “A little by each, a lot by everyone”.
