Our ED’s Intervention at a Regional Seminar on the Contribution of Development to the Enjoyment of All Human Rights

BEIRUT, LEBANON, November 8th – On Tuesday, November 8th, 2022, UN Global Compact Network Lebanon Executive Director Ms. Deenah Fakhoury spoke at a seminar organized by the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) on the contribution of development to the enjoyment of all human rights in Arabic-speaking countries.

The seminar, held at the UN House in Beirut, is part of a series of regional seminars – one for each of the five world regions – conducted before the fifty-third session of the Human Rights Council. It provided various stakeholders ranging from United Nations agencies to national human rights institutions to civil society organizations with a platform to share good practices and identify challenges and gaps in the protection of human rights and the role development plays in this regard.

For her intervention, Ms. Fakhoury shared about the work of the UN Global Compact and expanded how the private sector can contribute to ending poverty and reducing inequalities. She also stressed the role of youth as agents of change in advocating for human rights and advancing efforts on sustainability.
