Alfanar (meaning “beacon” in Arabic) is the first venture philanthropy organization in the Arab world that provides early and growth stage social enterprises with funding, management support, training, mentorship and access to markets. Between 2004 and 2021, the social enterprises they support have impacted over 180 000 lives mainly via access to quality education, vocational training, employment opportunities for youth, women’s economic empowerment and access to affordable goods. Between 2015 and 2021, 52% of their portfolio has reached break-even, no longer requiring donor funding to sustain and scale their impact.

Alfanar strives to be a beacon of change for the Arab world by strengthening sustainable, grassroots organizations that generate financial and social returns while transforming lives in deprived communities across the Arab world.
