On Friday, October 18th, 2018, Global Compact Network Lebanon hosted the second edition of the Multi-Stakeholder Forum, under the patronage of Prime Minister Saad El Hariri at the Grand Serail, to discuss and keep up with the latest trends and practices of Sustainable Development.
This forum was a unique opportunity and platform for all the stakeholders, leaders and individuals representing the public and private sector, civil society organizations and local authorities to promote multi-stakeholder dialogues, catalyze collaborations, explore innovative solutions to accelerate the SDGs in Lebanon, and work together towards the UN Sustainable Development Goals and 2030 Agenda.
Open to the public, the Forum’s agenda was packed with impactful presentations and live panel discussions consisting of prominent national and international pioneers to ignite a sense of awareness and urgency towards transforming words into action regarding the 17 SDGs.
The event started with an opening speech by Dr. Dima Jamali, GCNL’s President, which was followed by an aspirational remark from Ms. Pernille Kardel, the United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon.
Then, the two prominent keynote speakers, Prime Minister Mr. Saad Hariri nd H.R.H. Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden expressed their immense support to achieve the UN 2030 agenda.

In the first panel that was moderated by Dr. Dima Jamali, GCNL’s Goal Leaders who are championing the SDGs, discussed exemplary actions towards reaching the 2030 agenda, where they delivered inspirational messages about topics such as access to quality education and decent economic growth, etc, to establish a connection and sense of urgency with the audience to reach the 2030 agenda.
Moderated by Ms. Dina Harake, the second panel, Sustainable Development, Reforms and Public Good Moderator.
The third panel, moderated by Mr. Sami Nader, Head of Levant Institute for Strategic Affairs, was about the Power and Impact of the Private Sector in Achieving the SDGs.
The fourth panel, moderated by Mr. Maurice Matta, revolved around the Role of classic and Digital Media in Mainstreaming the Notion of Sustainability Moderator.
GCNL’s latest competition winners were announced during the Forum; this included the top three winners of the National Sustainability Youth Competition, along with the winners of the SDG Milestone Awards.
